Subject 1: Reflections on Science and Knowledge

How definite is our knowledge of the world?  One approach to this question is through history. People have in times past believed many things as true, for example: that the sun revolves around the world; that masturbation leads to illness and death; that genetic information is carried in proteins. Today, however, we believe that the world revolves around the sun; masturbation is not considered medically harmful by modern medicine; and science takes it as proven that genetic information is carried in DNA, not in proteins.
