Full-time (degree-seeking)
Prospective international students of the University of Freiburg can apply online for admission to undergraduate degree programmes (Bachelor, State Examination) during the designated application periods. Please consult the list of degree programmes offered at the University of Freiburg.
Applications are submitted via document upload through the application portal; please follow the instructions provided. The portal opens on June 1st for the winter semester and on December 1st for the summer semester.
Applications for Master’s programmes can also be submitted through the same portal. There are both German- and English-taught Master’s programmees, and the application deadlines differ depending on the programme. Please check the specific deadlines for each programme in the list of degree programmes.

Free-mover (short-term studies)
The primary language of instruction at the University of Freiburg is German. However, there are also a number of English-taught Master’s programmes for which knowledge of German is not required.
You must provide certificates to demonstrate your existing language skills. For German- or English-taught programmes, your language proficiency should be at least at level B2. Applicants for short-term study programmes are not required to take the DSH examination.

Mandatory orientation procedure
In Baden-Württemberg, it is compulsory to complete an orientation procedure before applying for admission to an undergraduate degree programme. In addition to this online study-choice assistant (OSA), there are many other study orientation procedures recognised as part of the application process at the University of Freiburg.
